Welcome to the USA-Interns homepage! We hope you enjoy reading up on our unique German-American student exchange initiative.
Founded in 1999 by the Steuben-Schurz-Gesellschaft e.V., the USA-Interns program was called into being to provide participants with a praxis-oriented first step in a potential career field whilst also broadening their knowledge of the German and American cultures. Since 2003, the US Consulate Frankfurt has been a co-sponsor of our program.
Our Vision
We believe that hands on experiences can truly alter the life’s path of an individual early in their career development. Our program’s purpose is to develop future leaders and movers with global competency by organizing intercultural experiences in a foreign work environment.
Through the USA – Interns program, we are making a durable contribution to German-American relations by providing our youth with an opportunity to correct cultural misconceptions based on first-hand experiences. Likewise, our program fosters global thinking and problem-solving skills, understanding, and respect – vital tools needed to succeed in the 21st century and to promote democratic values for the betterment of the entire world community.
The futures of our participants are unwritten, but one thing is certain – be they future researchers seeking cures for disease, corporate leaders, policy makers, teachers or parents – each of our participants will contribute to a better, more tolerant and just global society through more expanded visions that we have helped enable them to gain.
The Model
Our program finds 8-12 week (up to 6 months) internships for students at American and German universities in the respective host country. Special attention is given to matching the individual qualifications of the participants with the expectations and demands of the employer.
