We welcome any university to become a program partner, as it is our goal to provide opportunities to work abroad to interested students across the USA. We strongly believe that a partnership with your university is beneficial for everyone involved – your students receive the opportunity to work in Germany, we help you find internships for your students, and you provide us and our partner employers with talented and motivated young individuals.

Each partner has a specific role to help make this program a success.

The USA-Interns office makes contact with the companies and establishes the internship profiles. Upon receiving all resumes, we review the candidates and send their applications for selection to the relevant companies. Once a match has been found, we coordinate between the student and company and apply on their behalf for the work permit waivers. Our office serves as the point of contact for questions relating to living in Germany prior to and after the student's arrival. To help adjust to a new and often foreign environment, we also provide an orientation for the participants upon their arrival.

The partner university advertises the program, collects the applications/ pre-selects the students based on our guidelines and checks that all documents are in the appropriate format. Once a student is placed, the coordinator at the partner university assists the student to collect the necessary documents for their work permit waiver. The advisor plays a vital role in ensuring that the students sent to Germany on the program are mature and independent enough to work and live in Germany on their own.

If you are interested in becoming a program partner, please contact our program coordinator, who will gladly discuss the details of a partnership with you.

Selection Criteria

As a non-profit organization, the Steuben-Schurz-Gesellschaft funds its activities and the USA – Interns program through private donations from individuals and corporations that support our aim to improve understanding and communication between the peoples of Germany and the USA. Thus, the applicants we seek should support similar social aims and be dedicated to promoting these relations during and after their internships.
